Beyond Beauty

This precise message is for my dear ladies who spend their life savings and precious time investing on the Louis Vuitton shoes and bags, the brazilian hair, trending beauty spas, living an incredibly luxurious life and at the long run still end up unfulfilled. “Beyond beauty” is a burning topic I’ve been meaning to share and  I’m grateful to God i am in a position to address this, not because I feel better off, but because I now know much more than I did yesterday and a decade ago. Life has indeed been an awesome transformation and i am totally indebted to God for his divine grace upon my life.

So, who apart from me have noticed that most of our young girls have been looking stunning of late with all the contouring and highlighting? I bet you did. Oh! and what of the brides? Absolutely gorgeous! Thank God for the make-up industry. I see a lot of mind blowing transformations,“The before versus after". lol

Looking good is a necessity and popularly said, it is good business and of course, a part of feeling good.  As women, it gives us that self-confidence, ego boost, empowerment, and makes us feel we run this world. I believe everyone needs a spark of that feeling once in a while. It's that feeling of "Damn i look so good and no one can tell me otherwise". That gives us a reassurance that we are on top of our game, which comes especially when we get compliments from people.

A truly beautiful woman is physically appealing. She draws so much attention. Not all women are gifted with perfection of physical features, but fortunately, this is not the only prerequisite for beauty. The society we live in has always been obsessed with being beautiful, but there is more to beauty than what meets the eye. Men are usually drawn by what they first see but what sustains any relationship and makes it productive is the inner beauty inside of you. That inner beauty makes a woman even more attractive than what is seen outwardly, and to cover all of them would require a separate article, but nevertheless, i will touch on a few areas.

Studying the book of Proverbs 11:16, it tells us that a gracious woman retains honor and integrity. Such a woman has the qualities of being honest and having strong moral principles and uprightness. We find out that women held in high regards, are usually women who are kind hearted, gracious, thoughtful, peaceful and offer selfless services to others. They are women that leave good legacies behind whom we look up to as our role models.

More so, a woman should have sound judgement. "A beautiful woman without discretion is compared to a jewel of gold in a swine's snout"- Proverbs 11:22. How awful does this sound? This means that if a woman has all the physical endowments put in their right proportion and all the men in her neighborhood are head over heels for her, yet she lack proper discretion, it takes away her beauty and reduces her value to nothing. This simply interprets that she can't be entrusted to do anything right. That is why we as women, need sound judgement in making several decisions in life especially when it comes to good morals, spending money or dealing with people generally. We need to ask God for wisdom and direction to set us on the right track.

"A truly beautiful woman is not in competition with men—she understands the value and strengths she possess and appreciates them". She clothes herself with the unfading beauty of a quiet and gentle spirit, which is precious to God. 1Peter 3:4.

While putting this piece together, i had the opportunity to interview a very close male friend of mine, on what men actually look for in a woman. He made mention of possessing a good character, compatibility, spiritual growth, intelligence and so on... but then, beauty came last and when i asked why, he said because beauty fades while character sustains. So do you mean you can get attracted to a crippled, i mischievously asked?

He responded that a man might not be attracted to a cripple at first but overtime, he might begin to see qualities in her that supersedes the outward appearance. A pretty face accompanied with a bad attitude gives birth to "error". So my dear, please rise above the Louis Vuitton. Rise above just having a pretty face and a pretty red lips, the fancy jewelry or the expensive hairstyle. Real men are not interested in that.

I hereby encourage every lady "single or married", let us continue to grow and develop our inner self. I implore us to study the whole of "Proverbs 31" and see how God wants us to be vessels unto honor, that our loins shall rise and call us blessed.

Above all, do not forget to be beautiful before God. That should be your topmost priority. God values a woman who honors him. How a woman looks to God is far much better than any other qualities she possesses. The beauty God sees in her will be important when she stands before him. "Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, shall be praised"- Proverbs 31:30

It is every woman's desire to become the beautiful woman God intended her to be. Let us be beautiful inside out and more importantly, be beautiful in the sight of our maker.
